The New York State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics accepted the Academy Foundations’ Affiliate Challenge to raise funds for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Second Century Initiative and gave it a great effort.

Carol DeNysschen, PhD, MPH, RD, FAND, NYSAND President-Elect and Second Century Initiative Liaison, educated their membership throughout the year with Second Century updates in their newsletters. While Lucille Beseler, MS, RDN, LDN, CDE, FAND, the Academy’s 2016-2017 President, visited and presented an update at the NYSAND Annual Meeting and Expo in Lake Placid, N.Y. in May.

The Western New York Dietetic Association held a drawing at their annual banquet in June to raise awareness and funding for the Second Century. The event and generosity of the WNYDA members brought in just under $2,000! Items, such as gym memberships, gift cards, Amazon Fire tablets, yoga class memberships, fitness trackers, spa packages and many other raffle items were donated by the community and members.

The Affiliate with the highest combined total of Second Century donations per member will win a 2018 Scholarship in their name from the Foundation and the winning volunteer Fund Raising Champion from that Affiliate will win a free registration to the 2017 FNCE® in Chicago.
