August is often a busy month for everyone – especially parents. It’s a time to enjoy that last family vacation before kids have to go back to school. August is also Kids Eat Right Month.
Kids Eat Right is a program started by the Academy and its Foundation in 2010. Its mission is to educate families, communities, and policymakers on the importance of quality nutrition to promote optimal health of kids and their families.
KidsEatRight.org is a public site where parents can find articles, tips, recipes, and videos—all contributed by RDNs. The Foundation has a webpage that provides free resources to Academy members to take Kids Eat Right into their own communities and position them as experts.
Since the program began, the Foundation has awarded $142,450 in mini-grants to 908 Academy members to deliver these programs in their communities, reaching more than 61,000 parents and children. Over $2 million in funding has been provided from various sources to RDNs and non-profit organizations to implement nutrition education programs for kids and their families. Six research articles that include mention of the program have been published in peer-reviewed journals. Kids Eat Right has over half a million followers across six social media platforms.
Kids Eat Right – and the good work done by dietitians who are active in the program – truly exemplify the new joint Vision of the Academy and its Foundation: A world where all people thrive through the transformative power of food and nutrition. Donate today to support Kids Eat Right!
