Brief description of current job responsibilities: Program Director for the Dietetic Internship Program and University of Houston faculty member teaching courses in the ACEND accredited Nutrition Didactic Program in Dietetics and Nutrition Graduate Program. Before I began my doctorate, I worked in the Memorial Hermann Hospital System as both an inpatient and outpatient diabetes care and education specialist for 12 years.

How did you learn about the Foundation scholarships you received? For many years, the Foundation has presented at the NDEP spring regional meeting including sharing the incredible success stories of students that received generous Foundation support. These stories made me think that could be me one day.

How are you utilizing the funds the scholarships provided? I have used the scholarships to fund a portion of the tuition for my doctoral courses.
How are the scholarships helping you advance your career and achieve your goals? A professional goal of mine has been to earn a doctoral degree; these scholarships have been instrumental to my achieving this goal, as I would not have been able to financially afford my doctoral degree otherwise.
What advice do you have for colleagues about applying for Foundation awards? Go for it! It’s never too late to pursue your dreams. I know many DDPG members already have notable resumes that showcase valuable leadership and professional achievements that the Foundation will find scholarship-worthy.
Scholarship, Award and Grant Application and Timeline Information
All applications and timelines for Foundation funding opportunities are made available electronically within the Foundation’s application portal. Generally, the scholarship applications are available from mid- February to mid-April, most award and grant applications are available from December to February, and fellowship opportunities are posted as they become available.
