2022 Dr. Marie E. Knickrehm Memorial Scholarship Recipient

Completing a Doctoral Program at University of Nebraska -Lincoln

“My Foundation scholarship will allow me to complete my Ph.D. despite the pandemic and the resulting financial strain experience. I can't tell you how appreciative I am of this support! I have 15 credits remaining in my Ph.D. program and these funds will allow me to be able to pursue additional coursework that I otherwise would not have been able to afford this year and expedite the completion of my degree and professional aspirations. Thank you SO much!”

How did you learn about the availability of the Foundation scholarship that you received?

I learned of the scholarship opportunity as I serve on the Nebraska Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Board and through communications shared from the Board about Academy Foundation opportunities.

What motivated you to apply for a Foundation Scholarship?

The pandemic created some unexpected financial strain on my family while nearing the end of my Ph.D. program and so I was very motivated to identify additional funding opportunities to allow me to be able to complete my program.

How will the scholarship funds help support your continued success within your educational program?

Without these funds, I would not have been able to increase my course workload or complete my degree in a timely manner. I was taking one course at a time and working to cover the costs with additional jobs. This will allow me to focus on my coursework and my attention on completing my Ph.D.

What advice do you have for your colleagues about seeking out and applying for Foundation funding opportunities?

If you are interested in continued learning to expand your skill set as a dietetics professional consider applying for Foundation funding- you are never too old to add tools and skills to your professional portfolio!
