March 2023 Monthly Message

March Means National Nutrition Month!

For food and nutrition professionals, March means the celebration of National Nutrition Month®! This year’s theme is Fuel for the Future. The focus is on providing the body with the nutrients it needs to meet each life stage in tasty ways while also eating with sustainability in mind to protect the environment.

During National Nutrition Month in March, our Academy puts a spotlight on the value of RDN’s and will be celebrating Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day on March 8 and Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered Day on March 9. To help you get the word out about these great events, the Academy has assembled a dynamic social media toolkit. Use this during March to spread the message of good nutrition and the importance of an overall healthy lifestyle for all.

Another rewarding way to celebrate National Nutrition Month is to make a gift to our Academy Foundation in honor or memory of a fellow RDN mentor who has helped or inspired you along your career path Use the month of March during National Nutrition Month to celebrate your mentors. I encourage you to share a short story on your social media this month about a food and nutrition professional who has inspired you. Make a gift in their memory or honor by donating to our Foundation Annual Sustaining Fund.

In addition to National Nutrition Month, March is also a time for students, at all levels of study, to apply for hundreds of Foundation scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year. Scholarships include our Advancing Diversity in Dietetics Scholarship that supports educational advancement of aspiring RDNs of diverse backgrounds and cultures and provides two interns with $25,000 each. Other scholarships range from $500 to $10,000. Interns and students at all levels of study are eligible to apply, including undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and technician programs.

What’s very important to understand is that the applicant completes just one application to be considered for hundreds of scholarships. Your Foundation staff does the hard work to figure out which scholarships applicants are a good match for you. The application deadline is April 18. Students who want to get a head-start on their one application can download the Foundation’s free scholarship application checklist, and review the Scholarship FAQ.

All of these scholarships are made possible by the generosity of our donors. Scholarships make a difference in the lives of hundreds of students each year. Worth noting, a gift to our Make It a Million Scholarship Campaign will help build the next generation of food and nutrition professionals by empowering our Foundation to award $1M in scholarships annually starting in 2025.

Let’s all take action during March to celebrate National Nutrition Month and our mentors!

Sincerely,

Hope Warshaw, MMSc, RD, CDCES, BC-ADM, FADCES
