2022 Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation General Scholarship

Completing a Concurrent Graduate Program and Dietetic Internship at Andrews University

“This scholarship will help me achieve my goals in so many ways. The cost of receiving a college education is rising, and the new master's requirement for RD's makes this even more true. By receiving this scholarship, I can complete my Master's degree along with my Dietetic Internship to best prepare myself to enter the field of dietetics! In doing this, I am one step closer to my goal of opening a mental-health nutrition private practice in the future.”

How did you learn about the availability of the Foundation scholarship that you received?

I learned of the Foundation scholarships from my MSDI program director! She encouraged me to apply before beginning my program.

What motivated you to apply for a Foundation Scholarship?

I am so grateful for the many motivating factors I had in applying for the Foundation scholarships. I was encouraged by professors, fieldwork preceptors, friends, and family to go after the available funds. I especially want to appreciate the help my family members provided in reading through my application materials once (or maybe twice!) to ensure that I accurately represented myself and what I have to offer as a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

How will the scholarship funds help support your continued success within your educational program?

This scholarship will support me in being able to direct my full attention to my dietetic internship and Master's program courses. While I worked part-time through most of my undergraduate degree, I knew that would be a bit trickier while completing my graduate education. I am so thankful to the Academy and its donors for the opportunity to apply for these scholarships. By having the scholarship funds available to me, I will be able to dedicate more of my time toward progressing my knowledge and experience in the field of nutrition and dietetics. I can't even begin to express the financial burden this will alleviate for my family and me. In the future, I hope to be able to give back to our community and to fellow students like myself to empower them to do their best as well.

What advice do you have for your colleagues about seeking out and applying for Foundation funding opportunities?

My advice for any peers and colleagues about applying for foundation scholarship opportunities is to keep your eyes open and get an early start once the application becomes available! Perhaps the most important piece of advice I can give is to just go for it. Even if you don't think you'll get anything, work to really represent yourself and what you stand for because you might get rewarded! After all, what is the worst thing that can happen by applying? You don't receive the funding? Then you're just back where you started. While that might be a little frustrating, it can allow you to review your portfolio and see what things you may be able to improve.

All applications and timelines for Foundation funding opportunities are made available electronically within the Foundation’s application portal.
