Foundation Nutrition Symposium: From Fringe to Flourish- The Future of Plant-based Eating

Sunday, October 4

CPE Level: 2
Learning Need Code: 2010, 4110, 6010

Recommendations by health organizations encourage Americans to shift to a diet with more plant-based foods, but consumers are confused about what these recommendations mean. This session will share new trend data and survey results that provide consumer and RDN insight on plant-based eating, along with tools that RDNs can use to teach clients that plant-based eating is not an all-or-nothing proposition. Speakers will provide examples of the wide array of plant-based eating plans and the research supporting their health benefits. A culinary demonstration focused on overcoming common consumer acceptance barriers will showcase plant-based recipes.

After attending this session, attendees will be able to:

  1. Apply the prevalence and trends in consumer plant-based eating patterns to educate clients about plant-based diet recommendations
  2. Cite the scientific support for plant-based diet guidelines
  3. Identify newly identified barriers to plant-based eating and adopt a food-forward approach to overcome those barriers when promoting plant-based eating to patients
