2022 Commission on Dietetic Registration Diversity Scholarship

Completing a Dietetic Internship at Anne Brezina Dietetic Internship

“My primary ambitions after I complete my dietetic internship is to work my way up towards becoming a clinical nutrition manager in order to sustainably reduce the growing rate of malnutrition seen in hospitals across the nation. In order to have a more concerted and wide impact in this mission, I plan earn a master's in business or health administration. These areas will prepare me to develop a practical mindset to manage and resolve issues found in everyday organizations and corporations, which is crucial in managing hospital operations. I now have a greater sense of reassurance and motivation to continue working hard to achieve my goals thanks to the generosity of this scholarship in supporting my educational pursuits.”

How did you learn about the availability of the Foundation scholarship that you received?

As a student member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, I regularly receive and check my emails to stay up to date with the latest news, events, and announcements. During the school year, I came across an announcement of the opening of Foundation scholarships and my DPD advisor sent an email reminder about the application deadlines and encouraged us to apply.

What motivated you to apply for a Foundation Scholarship?

I have applied to plenty of university scholarships during my college career, and each and every application has always been worth the time, effort, and resources to complete. That is why when I heard about the Foundation scholarships, I immediately asked my DPD director and advisor for their thoughts to garner support and began the application journey. These scholarships have helped remove the financial barriers that once prevented me from pursuing this field in the first place, and that realization is enough to motivate me to apply.

How will the scholarship funds help support your continued success within your educational program?

The funds from this scholarship will help pave the way for my rising success in my internship and upcoming masters alike. I will be able to focus my energy on learning and gaining as much insight as I can from my dietetic internship and masters rather than worrying about the financial weight that these opportunities would otherwise have had. I will also stay motivated and determined to achieve a high level of competence as a practitioner as I am privileged to be able to continue my education with the help of the funds from this scholarship.

What advice do you have for your colleagues about seeking out and applying for Foundation funding opportunities?

My advice is to challenge yourself to continue to grow and expand your skillset as a practitioner. No matter what the area of dietetics you practice, there is always room for continuous improvement and progress, so ask yourself where you fall into this equation, and how you can reach your greatest potential. Once you have considered all the possibilities, and no matter how far-fetched, consider the financial considerations it will take to achieve those goals, and apply yourself to the Foundation funding opportunities. The Foundation recognizes sincerity and true effort made to improve health status of our communities in the name of nutrition, so dream big and apply without hesitation if you are willing to make that difference!
