A Month for Giving Thanks!

November is the time of year when we connect with loved ones and give thanks, and it is one of my favorite times of the year. I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve as Chair of our Foundation this year, and I am thankful to everyone who has helped us make an impact on thousands of fellow Academy members and students through our scholarships, awards, fellowships, research grants, public nutrition education programs and disaster relief efforts. So, I’d like to take this opportunity to give thanks.

  • Thank you to Academy President Lauri Wright for hosting the 2023 FNCE® President’s Party with a Purpose which benefited our Foundation.
  • Thanks to everyone who participated in any of our FNCE® Foundation events. Whether you participated in our Virtual 5k, donated or bid on a silent auction item, or attended our Pre-FNCE® symposia, or celebrated with us at the President’s Party, you helped support our profession and we are thankful.
  • Thanks to all of our Foundation volunteers who serve as board members, state fund raising champions within their local affiliates, and those who serve on committees that help review the thousands of scholarship, award and grant applications we receive each year.

All our Foundation programs and resources, including scholarships, are made possible through the generosity of our donors. I would like to thank everyone who has donated to our Foundation this year to help students like Martha and the hundreds of others who received a scholarship and are pursuing their dreams this Fall. Your commitment to our profession and desire to give back inspires me. You are all truly essential to the success of our Foundation.

"I am a first-generation immigrant, and the first generation in my family to attend college in the United States... As an immigrant, Hispanic, and a woman, I never had a lot.

This scholarship has been my greatest accomplishment, as it has put me one step closer to achieving my goal of becoming a public health professional working towards improving the health of underrepresented groups in my community."

If you haven’t had the opportunity to give this year, November also means #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, the day kicks off the charitable season, when many people focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. As you consider donating to your favorite charities this year on November 28, 2023, please remember the one devoted to your very own chosen profession, our Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation.

Together we are helping create a world where all people thrive through the transformative power of food and nutrition by empowering current and future food and nutrition practitioners to optimize global health!

Thank you again for your support of our Foundation. Have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Sincerely,

Susan Laramee, MS, RDN, FADA, FAND
