Thank You for An Incredible Year! As I review my year as Chair of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation, I am incredibly grateful for the passion my fellow Academy members have for our Foundation and the tremendous support we have received in another challenging pandemic year. In honor of Black History Month, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation celebrates pioneers who have made a lasting impact. Sarah M. Wilder, PhD, RD, was a trailblazer within the Academy and the nutrition and dietetics profession. As a founding member of the Academy’s National Organization of Blacks in Dietetics and Nutrition member interest group, she served as NOBIDAN’s executive director for 24 years. Wilder was one of the organizers and charter members of the Dietetic Technicians sub-unit within the Academy’s Dietetics in Health Care Communities dietetic practice group . In 2005, following the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Board of Directors established a Disaster Relief Fund through the Foundation with an initial $100,000 contribution. The fund was created to provide support for emergency personal and professional life-rebuilding efforts of Academy members impacted by this FEMA-declared natural disasters. An additional generous contribution of $50,000 from the Commission on Dietetics Registration, as well as donations from DPGs, MIGs, Affiliates and individual members contributed to growing and maintaining the fund. Happy Holidays! December is a one of my favorite months since it gives us the opportunity to enjoy time with loved ones, reflect on the past year and get ready for a new year. As we review 2021, we are grateful that our Foundation has had a very successful year, awarding a record number of scholarships , thanks to the generous support of our donors. Our awards and grants season begins in December, when we open our 2022 Award and Research Grants. Molly Kellogg, RD, LCSW, has had a long, successful career in nutrition and dietetics   , starting in obstetrics and pediatrics, moving to private practice and , specializing in eating disorders and becoming renowned throughout the profession for her motivational interviewing in dietetics. Her counseling skills resources have been used in undergraduate and internship programs to prepare future practitioners for professional practice. This year, we have awarded a record  $812,950  in scholarship support to  330  dietetic interns and students for the  2021-2022 academic year . Our Foundation has awarded two first of its kind Advancing Diversity in Dietetics Scholarships to Academy student members, Gabriela Naveda and Latina Robinson. Naveda and Robinson will receive $25,000 each for the 2021-2022 academic year, representing the largest financial scholarships ever awarded by the Foundation.
