The start of anything new is always exhilarating, and that’s certainly how I feel about beginning the new 2018-19 fiscal year. I’d like to welcome our new Academy Foundation Board members: Academy President-Elect: Terri J. Raymond, MA, RDN, CD, FAND; Financial Officer: Manju Karkare, MS, RDN, LDN, FAND; Directors: Margaret Garner, MS, RDN, LD, CIC, FAND, Hope S. Warshaw, MMSc, RD, CDE, BC-ADM, FAADE, Constance Locher-Bussard, RD, LDN, and William C. Barkley, MBA, RD, LD, FAND; Public Members: Lisa M. Hilmi, MPH, BSN, RN and Bruce Y. Lee, MD, MBA; and Student Member: Kiri Mitchell. This talented, capable group of leaders will serve us well, bringing both a fresh perspective to our efforts as well as years of experience in a broad variety of activities that align with our Vision and Mission.
Our volunteer Scholarship Selection Committee is working hard this summer, reviewing the over 800 applications that we received; these will be awarded later this summer. The application deadline for the nine competitive research grants offered by the Foundation (in areas including obesity, foodservice, nutrition support, and diabetes medical nutrition therapy) is July 1.

We hope you’re planning to attend FNCE® in Washington, DC this October. If so, please join us at the Foundation Gala (aka Party with Marty!) on October 22, 2018. Tickets can be purchased as you register on-line for FNCE®. It promises to be another fun evening and is a great way to support the Foundation’s Annual Fund. I hope you’re as excited as I am about what the new year will bring, and as always, thank you for your continued generosity to the Foundation.
