"In 2013, the SDSU Student Nutrition Organization had over 100 passionate students participating in numerous social and philanthropic ventures supporting Nutrition at the local level. We wanted to harness the enormous pool of passion for nutrition and connect the group with a National or Global cause that resonated with the students. Upon reading about KER on EatRight.org it was unanimous that child nutrition was a passion of many students. Even for those, like myself, going into other specialties, it seemed hard to find a nutrition student who wasn't impassioned by child nutrition. From that overwhelming interest and support we discussed how the organization could best support or promote KER. The concept of a Gala allowed the organization to both raise funds for KER as well as promote awareness of KER and ANDF within the San Diego community."

With the combination of a silent auction, ticket sales, and generous donations, SNO raised $2,800 for the Kids Eat Right campaign. To end the night with a twist Emily Woolf, the SNO President, gathered the gala attendees for the grand finale. The ignition of sparklers symbolized a remembrance of our heartfelt evening in "Lightning the Path" to ending childhood obesity.

The Academy Foundation's Kids Eat Right public nutrition education program was launched to support projects and programs that address the national health concern of obesity among our children.

I learned more about the Kids Eat Right (and the) Foundation and was reminded of some of the nutritional issues that affect children. It was an excellent opportunity to mingle with current and former students and colleagues and raise money for a worthy cause!"
