A Month for Giving Thanks!
November is the time of year when we connect with loved ones and give thanks, and it is one of my favorite times of the year. I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve as Chair of our Foundation this year, and I am thankful to everyone who has helped us make an impact on thousands of fellow Academy members and students through our scholarships, awards, fellowships, research grants, public nutrition education programs and disaster relief efforts. So, I’d like to take this opportunity to give thanks.
- Thank you to Academy President Kevin Sauer for hosting the 2021 FNCE® President’s Party with a Purpose, which benefited our Foundation.
- Thanks to everyone who participated in any of our numerous FNCE® Foundation virtual events. Whether you participated in our Virtual 5k My Way, donated or bid on a silent auction item, listened in on one of our Foundation educational sessions, presented or participated in one of our presentations or events, or visited our booth — you helped support our profession and we are thankful.
- Thanks to all of our Foundation volunteers who serve as board members, state fund raising champions within their local affiliates, and those who serve on committees that help review the thousands of scholarship, award and grant applications we receive each year.
Your commitment to our profession and desire to give back inspires me. You are all truly essential to the success of our Foundation.
We are most proud of the record $812,950 that has been awarded in scholarships to support to 330 dietetic interns and students for the 2021-2022 academic year. $439,450 of those scholarship dollars were awarded to 137 students of diverse backgrounds and cultures, representing 54% of total funding. Our Foundation is the world’s largest provider of dietetic scholarships at all levels of study, supporting nutrition and dietetics students and professionals by empowering them to help consumers live healthier lifestyles.
All our Foundation programs and resources, including scholarships are made possible through the generosity of our donors.
hank you to everyone who has donated to our Foundation this year to help students like Diana and the hundreds of others who received a scholarship and are pursuing their dreams this Fall.
November also means #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, the day kicks off the charitable season, when many people focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. As you consider donating to your favorite charities this year on November 30, 2021, please remember the one devoted to your very own chosen profession, our Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation.
Together we are helping create a world where all people thrive through the transformative power of food and nutrition!
Thank you again for your support of our Foundation. Have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
