2022 FNCE® - Tremendous Success – Thank You!
If you attended FNCE® 2022, you know firsthand how fantastic it was to be back in person in Orlando. I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to reconnect and catch up with friends and colleagues face-to-face. It was also beneficial to attend sessions, network, and share ideas with one another and celebrate our profession and, particularly, our Foundation.
If you were not in Orlando for FNCE® I want to give you a quick snapshot of the many opportunities I had to speak about the far-reaching and impactful work of the Academy Foundation as well as to formally launch our Make It a Million Scholarship Campaign. In a nutshell, this campaign aims to raise $1 million over the next three years to enable the Foundation to, award $1 million in scholarships to students at all levels of study, FOREVER! Please consider donating to this campaign today!
Many FNCE® attendees came by our booth on Academy Ave to pick up their virtual 5k Run/Walk shirts and view and bid on silent auction items. Attendees also made donations to the Make It a Million Scholarship Campaign and got a photo taken to celebrate their gift and encourage others to do the same (me and Academy President Ellen Shanley included – far left).
I had many opportunities to talk about the Foundation’s programs and share our success stories, including meetings with Affiliate, Dietetic Practice Group and Member Interest Group leaders, ACEND committee members, and a lively Academy Member Showcase.
One event that was particularly inspiring to me was our Coffee with the Foundation Fellows on Sunday. This event provided a chance to congratulate all Academy Foundation awardees, from scholarship winners to research grant recipients and others.
During the last decade, through the support of our Fellowship donors, our Foundation has invested nearly $2 million in our Fellowship program. Foundation Fellows serve as catalysts for change and advancement in emerging areas of need for our evolving profession. Each of the Foundation fellows lead a robust and dynamic program of work where resources were not previously available.
If you’re not familiar with the Foundation Fellowship program and their work that is impacting our advancement as food and nutrition professionals, meet three fellows and learn more about their projects in this great new video.
As your Foundation chair this year, I am overwhelmed by how much FNCE attendees care about our Foundation as the philanthropic arm of the Academy and our Foundation’s programs. I want to thank our Pre-FNCE Foundation Symposia sponsors Nature Made and cannedbeans.org, as well as our Foundation Breakfast sponsor, Florida Orange Juice.
I also thank everyone who particapted any of our events, including our very popular virtual silent auciton. Academy members, DPGS, Affiliates, MIGs and FNCE exhibitors donated 100 items and helped to make this event a tremendous success.
I left FNCE® 2022 excited for the future and appreciative of all donors who support our Foundation in so many different ways. Thanks to you, we are able to impact the lives of thousands of food and nutrition professionals each year through our scholarships, awards, research grants, fellowships, public nutrition education programs and disaster relief efforts.
