2022 LTC. Eleanor L. Mitchell Memorial Scholarship

Completing a Dietetic Internship at Oregon State University

“I have known for many hard-fought years that I wanted to become a Registered Dietitian. What I didn't know, was how I was going to afford both graduate school and a ten-month, unpaid internship along the way. This scholarship is a blessing in helping me find my way towards accomplishing my dream and I am eternally grateful for it.”

How did you learn about the availability of the Foundation scholarship that you received?

I learned about the availability of the Foundation’s LTC, Eleanor L. Mitchell Memorial Scholarship through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation and its scholarship program.

What motivated you to apply for a Foundation Scholarship?

I refuse to let finances get in the way of accomplishing my goal of becoming a registered dietitian. Being determined to find a way to pay for school and an unpaid, ten-month long internship has led me to apply to several scholarships in hopes of finding any aid. I am greatly appreciative of the Eleanor L. Mitchell Memorial Scholarship for their help in my journey.

How will the scholarship funds help support your continued success within your educational program?

I have taken out several loans to pay my way through my dietetic undergraduate program as well as my current graduate program and to simply afford the cost of living during my dietetic internship when I cannot physically work. This scholarship fund will help support my continued success in allowing me to move forward in pursuing my goals without accumulating more debt and to alleviate some financial and emotional stress in the process.

What advice do you have for your colleagues about seeking out and applying for Foundation funding opportunities?

Apply to as many scholarships as you can. It may seem like a ton of work, and you may not get them all, but the ones that you do are an immense weight lifted off your shoulder.

Scholarship and Award Application and Timeline Information

All applications and timelines for Foundation funding opportunities are made available electronically within the Foundation’s application portal.
