Completing a Dietetic Internship at San Francisco State University
| “It is very difficult for many students to be able to afford expensive and lengthy dietetic programs and have no source of income. This creates a huge equity gap, where students who are already underprivileged, and marginalized will not be able to become dietitians helping overcome the health disparities of their communities. The Foundation's Scholarship Program is helping students overcome this equity gap, that stops many students like me from achieving our academic goals of becoming registered dietitians.” |
How did you learn about the availability of the Foundation scholarship that you received?
I learned about the scholarship program through my internship director.
What motivated you to apply for a Foundation Scholarship?
Financial needs motivated me to apply. I have to financially survive for 11+ months living in San Franciso with no significant income and having to pay nearly 15K for my internship program.
How will the scholarship funds help support your continued success within your educational program?
The scholarship will help me offset some of the cost of attending the internship. This way I can spend more time on focusing my internship rotations and learning.
What advice do you have for your colleagues about seeking out and applying for Foundation funding opportunities?
It is worth seeking out all sources of financial help. I have been lucky enough to have been provided similar scholarships and grants during my undergrad years, and they have helped offset a significant percentage of my tuition cost, helping me save money for emergency purposes.
Scholarship and Award Application and Timeline Information
All applications and timelines for Foundation funding opportunities are made available electronically within the Foundation’s application portal. Generally, the scholarship applications are available from mid- February to mid-April, most award and grant applications are available from December to February, and fellowship opportunities are posted as they become available.
