How did you learn about the availability of the Foundation scholarship that you received?
I learned of the Foundation scholarship through my dietetic internship director. I was eager to apply for such a great opportunity to be considered for a scholarship. I am extremely grateful that I decided to apply!
What motivated you to apply for a Foundation Scholarship?
Accepting my match to my dietetic internship on Match Day was a big commitment for me in many ways. I was deciding to commit the next year to building my skills in dietetics and to gaining invaluable experience to prepare me to become an RD – this was easy to say yes to. On the other hand, I was deciding on whether or not I could commit to taking on more financial responsibility and stress that comes with an unpaid internship, which is the case for many programs. As soon as I heard about scholarships available to dietetic interns, I applied because I was confident that a career in dietetics would be a great fit for me and that taking on any financial load would all be worth it in the end. I am beyond grateful to move forward with my dietetic internship with financial support from the Academy Foundation.
How will the scholarship funds help support your continued success within your educational program?
Receiving a scholarship from the Foundation is an honor and a tremendous help for me in my journey to becoming a dietitian. This scholarship has eased some financial stress that has come with pursuing a career like this one and has allowed me to focus on. I hope to also pursue advanced certification in the future, and a scholarship like this one has empowered me to aim high and reach my fullest potential.
What advice do you have for your colleagues about seeking out and applying for Foundation funding opportunities?
I encourage all to seek out and apply for Foundation funding opportunities. It was an amazing opportunity to be considered for a scholarship, and to receive one is an even greater honor. Any form of support can go a long way in the pursuit of a career in dietetics, and financial support in particular can make a huge difference.
Scholarship and Award Application and Timeline Information
All applications and timelines for Foundation funding opportunities are made available electronically within the Foundation’s application portal. Generally, the scholarship applications are available from mid- February to mid-April, most award and grant applications are available from December to February, and fellowship opportunities are posted as they become available.
