Commission on Dietetic Registration Doctoral Scholarship
Completing a Doctoral Program at University of Bridgeport
“This scholarship is a blessing for me. I could only afford to take one class per semester when I started this past Summer. Now, I can increase the credits for the coming Semester. This scholarship also helps me to focus on my doctoral program instead of working extra hours to make up the funds I have to put aside for class and everyday expenses. Now, I am able to focus more on going in depth in my classes to learn how to prepare myself to assist and serve my community at large. Already, I am learning so much and getting so many ideas that I have already put into place at my present job. I am honored to be chosen for such a prestigious award and will do my best to stay consistent and persistent to achieve my goal of getting a doctoral degree in Health Sciences.” |
How did you learn about the availability of the Foundation scholarship that you received?
I learned about the Foundation scholarship through a colleague who knew I was looking to further my education and did not have the funds to maintain the tuition.
What motivated you to apply for a Foundation Scholarship?
I was motivated to apply for the scholarship mainly because I needed the finances to further my education. As a single Black woman, it is very hard to keep up with current expenses and pay for a doctoral degree. Some might say it is too much work and writing to apply for the scholarship or that too many questions were asked, but I believe in hard work, dedication, and consistency. I believe that this funding will be a blessing for me.
How will the scholarship funds help support your continued success within your educational program?
The scholarship will help me to be more focused on my classes instead of worrying about doing extra hours to earn the money to pay for the classes. I can also increase the amount of credits that I will be taking next semester without dipping into my savings to cover the cost of my tuition.
What advice do you have for your colleagues about seeking out and applying for Foundation funding opportunities?
The advice I would give to a college about seeking out and applying for Foundation funding opportunities is to be positive and never doubt that you will not win this scholarship over another scholar. The opportunity is there for everyone and all you have to do is to fill out those forms in a timely fashion and keep a positive perspective that you will win. This is a great scholarship, and it is very fulfilling. I am happy to be among the many that were chosen because I know that hundreds might have applied.
