How did you learn about the availability of Foundation scholarships and what motivated you to apply?
I learned about the availability of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation scholarships through my Bachelor of Science in Dietetics Program Director and now my current graduate advisor, Monica Esquivel. She shared with me over 3 years ago about the numerous opportunities that the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has for funding and this information single handedly has changed my life, as I am now a 3-time Academy scholarship recipient!
Describe the financial impact that this scholarship will have on your educational journey this year.
This Scholarship will help to pay for my education for the 2024 to 2025 academic year, and without this Scholarship I would have had to take out a substantial amount of student loans which would have added to the financial burden of school. This Scholarship is directly alleviating the amount of financial stress I have experienced throughout my Academic career and will allow me to focus more on my education.
What advice do you have for other students and professionals who are considering applying for Foundation funding?
Advice I have for other students and professionals who are considering applying for Foundation funding is to 100% do it! It doesn't hurt to apply. I would suggest educating yourself about the different types of funding available through the Foundation and familiarize yourself with the Foundation's website. There are a lot more opportunities for Academy student or professional members and so I would also suggest considering becoming a member. Being a member also provides one with valuable up to date information about what is happening in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Scholarship and Award Application and Timeline Information
All applications and timelines for Foundation funding opportunities are made available electronically within the Foundation’s application portal. Generally, the scholarship applications are available from mid- February to mid-April, most award and grant applications are available from December to February, and fellowship opportunities are posted as they become available.
